RE: service bulletins vs recalls

a recall is something the manufacture knows is a problem and must fix a service bulletin is something to help other technicians around the country with diagnosing certain problems and different fixes for them

RE: 2005 Silverado 2500HD Diesel 6.6l,5A

"The truck is a 3500 hd DRW 4x4 with all the heavy duty towing packages and coolers. I am hoping someone on here would have some suggestions as the truck now just sits in my garage unused. thanks for any help, David" I know what you can do, sell it to me for a good price. That would be better than just leaving it sit there.

RE: 2500 HD Towing 12,000 lbs

I tow a 34 foot 5er 9,000 dry and 12,000 gvwr with a 2006 GMC Sierra with an 8.1. The truck does not squat at all and it pulls it fine you know it is there when you get to the gas pump.

RE: info on jelly stone park in java ny

it is built on an incline alright and the sites we had were not level, it rained the whole weekend and the mud came right to our doorstep. The sites are way to close for me and expensive compared to other sites in our area. It is set up more for kids, lots for kids to do there.

RE: Ford or Chevy/GMC

you can get 0% now but not both employee pricing and 0%. If they do that, now it gets sweeter. I do have an insider that I know and trust and he has confirmed that in some and many caces the dealers are using "dummy" tags on the windoes. These are stickers that look like factory stickers but they are not. They are the dealer stickers and the pricing has been upliffted before the rebates are applied. If it does get better, I will take another look. I don't think they print up "dummy" tags. That would just make no sense. All you have to do is take the options off the window sticker and then go to NADA and build a vehicle with the same options. Then compare with the price on the truck on the lot. You can also go right to the Ford site and build a truck there with the options and compare the prices there. There are just to many places you can get the prices yourself for them to do something that stupid. Now some of them will put an additional tag next to the window sticker with dealer installed options and dealer incentives that they think the can get away with. Also you need to take a look at the window sticker and at the very bottom of it states. "This label is added to this vehcile to comply with federal law. The label cannot be removed or altered prior to delivery to the ultimate purchaser." This IMO The dealers can't remove or inflate the msrp or change the window sticker's, it's a federal law and they would lose their franchise. I really don't think you will see the huge deals on any of the big trucks like everyone is waiting for. I think if you pay attention to all the reports the manufactures they just shut down all their truck plants and switched to better mileage cars. They believe that if you need a truck you will have to pay for them. The manufactures can't keep losing money by discounting them just to get rid of them. They would rather shut down production and make it up with the cars. I am with the rest of you hoping the deals come my lease is up soon. Tough decision between Ford and GMC had Fords all my life never a problem last one is a GMC because I sell them and love this one too. GMC much better looking than the Chevy, that said I think it's going to be real hard to beat the duramax allison combo. Good luck either way you can't go wrong

RE: Why a 5'er??

You do lose space in your bed but almost everything I had before in my bed is stored away in the basement of the 5er. I think the ease of towing and hooking and unhooking is way better, also storage and overall space is way better.

I will bet the air bypass valve is dirty and sticking or sometimes called idle speed control valve. It will sometimes cause hard starting and idle problems you should be able to remove it and clean it .

whats with this site tonight

whats wrong with this site tonight it is very slow when it does work. Most of the time I keep getting kicked off every time I click on something. You would think a site this big wouldn't have all these problems.

RE: Vehicle Prices

I'd be surprised if there's only 12% mark up on a Suburban. There was just a special on tv the other night about how the trucks and big truck based suv's were cash cows because of the mark up. You are right but it is for the manufactures not the dealers or sales people

quote=happyeaglesfan, I think we can agree to disagree. You being a stealer and me being the consumer! I think we can agree to disagree. I used to believe what you think until I got in the business and saw the real picture. I am definitly not a stealer, thanks for your opinion. I just thought I would try to be a voice of reason for you. I too would like to buy a new truck right now and mine is worth nothing. I do this everyday and see both sides, I can't afford to lose on mine and swing the payment of a new one. I won't be buying now, but it sure isn't the dealers fault

RE: Vehicle Prices

There's a little more mark-up than that. A 45K Burb could be discounted fairly easily to 40k,and more if there not selling good, plus all the current incentives at the time. You are right I was just guessing from home but here are actual figures MSRP $45,590 dealer invoice $42,557 supplier price $42,170 GM employee $40,360 total mark up $3,033 and you know no one ever pays sticker so just how much do you think they are making? If the dealer is trying to beat another dealer ( all the time ) that mark up is usually gone.

RE: Vehicle Prices

Paul This is exactly what I am saying only I do not expect to see an increase in the value of my truck I just think dealers are using this to their advantage a little too much. I mean I know I will have problems trading right now, but the dealer also needs to realize they are going to have the same problems moving their new vehicles. It has got to be give and take but with dealers now it is take and take for them. As for the dealer saying it is not the same or they are not giving me a rough 08 burb, well I am not trading in a rough 06. I have said it is not a pressing need. We have 3 kids now and only plan on one more in a few years. The truck seats 6 so it will be mine until the fenders fall off or the market changes! the problem is the dealer not only takes a loss on the new one to make you happy, they would also take a big loss on yours because they would never be able to sell it. The market for these used are so bad now that after it sits on the dealers used car lot and can't sell it they have to be able to cash out of it. That would be at the auction. Right now at the auctions they aren't even getting bids on used trucks or suv's. It's not that dealers are losing a little at the auctions they can't even get anyone to bid at all. If you don't want to lose money on yours don't trade it! You could sell it yourself but you will never get what you think it is worth. We have used trucks and suv's on our lot right now for thousands under kelly Blue book and NADA and still can't sell them. I think you should just wait till this whole oil mess blows over, it can't last forever. The dealer wants it to be lose lose for me. They want ME to take the hit two times. I do not mind taking a hit on one end of it becasue I want something. But I am also taking something off the dealers hands. There is a high $ to be made on these new High priced BURBS. A lot more mark up than on a gas sipper. The dealer will still make money selling me the burb. I am not sure of the amount but I am sure there is approx 20% profit at least on one of these vehicles. I am sure you don't believe it but there is hardly any profit in a new vehicle anymore, because the competition is so tight. I believe it is less than 2%, thier profit comes in the used car end of it. They make their money when they sell your trade in which isn't going to happen with yours. The mark ups are not like the RV market, depending on the price of the suburban there is probably $2,500 from sticker to invoice.

RE: Vehicle Prices

I'd like to upgrade to an Expy or Yukon. I found the same thing - the dealers would rather let them sit on the lots than deal on them. The dealers don't have a choice, they are marking them down but there is only so much they can lose and still be in business. The manufactures need to come out with better incentives to move the new ones

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

I will help you with my honest gas mileage readings. I get 12.5 mpg everyday driving I have gotten as high as 14.6 mpg at 65mph flat thruway driving. Neither is very good in my eyes. Now when I hook my 5th wheel up and tow no faster than 62mph it is anywhere from 6.5 to 7.9 mpg these are all readings from my DIC. My truck is stock and has 3:73 gears but I did put 265 tires on, which I think made it worse.
